Jingles for Branding and Commercials

Today as radio comes out a great place for advertisement and promoting your products. Companies spent lot of money to promoter their products. Jingles are the only way on the radio to promote your products. The jingle had no definitive debut: its infiltration of the radio was more of an evolutionary process than a sudden innovation. Product advertisements with a musical tilt can be traced back to 1923, around the same time commercial radio came to the public.

We always give least importance to radio advertising but from a research it has been proved that radio ads are among the strongest medium that can sell things. In the harsh realities of today's marketplace a great ad jingle can be a surefire way to crank your service and slogan to a wider audience and get your company some respect. So, what makes an advertising jingle unique? Before you lay down your valuable funds to an established jingle production company (or even to your brother Doug's grunge band) there are many ideas you should carefully research in order to make your new advertising music as effective as it's ever going to be.
A Good jingle should have the following qualities.

  • Humor
  • Outstanding music
  • Understand the audience
  • Never lie
  • Use a single message
  • Intergrate a jingle to your camoaign
  • Reward the Audience

Following are some useful key point.

o Branding is key: plan on beginning your new advertising endeavor with a full vocal edit of your jingle and then use a different version once your jingle has been in the marketplace long enough to stick in your potential customers' heads. o The jingles are usually composed by professionals. Since jingles are important components of the ad campaign, a lot of care is taken to ensure that only a very high quality advertising jingle is produced. o Be on alert with jingle makers that charge renewal fees. A good jingle can have a years-long shelf life, so look for a company that can provide full buyouts, or long-term licensing contracts. o It's not suitable just to demand that your jingle be "modern." Contemplate where you will be advertising. Ask yourself: will your easy listening style jingle find its target audience if used in a AOR format? Contemplate your music style options carefully.

The key to successful branding is really in your own hands. Wal-Mart didn't get to be the powerhouse we know today because of a smiley-face. It was because Sam Walton jumped in his truck every morning and set out to find the best deals on anything he could and used all his disposable resources to make his branding efforts true in the eyes of the consumers. Therefore it's your job as a manager/ business owner to engrain this message into the minds of your customers. The team members in your organization also play a critical role in developing your brand because once you have marketed yourself as the leader in one aspect of your business; you must make everyone within your organization believe it first. This may not be as easy as it sounds. You must constantly remind all members of the organization that you are all collectively the best and the only way to do that is by being honest in your branding. BE the best and everyone will know it.

Jingles and Radio Ads

Jingles are simply advertisements. Simple songs about a product. This is one area that a musician will shy away from - until they find out how much money they can make writing jingles. I can hear someone out there right now yelling "Sell out!" If you want to make money with music then writing radio ads jingles, tv commercial jingles, and other forms of advertising jingles are a gem. You don't even have to tell your friends. You can be a closet jingle writer!

If an advertising agency determines that new music will be required, they will work up the budget, and consult with the client for ideas, and then, if they have their own in-house music development team, that team will develop the jingle for the new ad. If they don’t have such a department, then they will outsource to a jingle production company. This company will write a song and produce a demo for the commercial. Once the client accepts the work, then full production is done of the commercial.

Sometimes, however the advertising agency goes a different route. They’ll contact a songwriter, working independently, and hire him or her to write the jingle. This normally only works out well for the songwriter if he has had success for writing hit songs or if has already obtained a reputation in the jingle business.

Often the songwriter is hard pressed to produce a high quality demo because he doesn’t have his own production facility. If his track record or his ability to resolve that issue can be overcome, then he may be able to give the advertising agency what they want.

Jingle

Jingles? Has any specific definition? Can we define it in open words?

It can only be define as a short catchy song used to advertise a product on radio or television. An imitative sound, probably, use to invite the attention of others. It is a light ringing sound; mostly remain alive on the background of the human voice during the whole time of advertisement of the relevant commodity. In the very first, jingle was used only for advertisement purpose but now it frequently in use of parody, comedy and lampoon purposes. Parody allows all the radio networks to use copyright law by using parody provisions. Jingle also helps us in the process of publicity of the relevant brand. This new variety of Jingle in the process of advertisement could get brand’s name alive all the time in heads of thousand of customers without using extra struggle and effort for selling that product for which it used.

The usage of jingle in the commercial life is not suddenly happened. It’s an evolutionary process than a sudden innovation. There is no perfect information available about jingle’s innovation and starting history. According to the best of my knowledge, advertisement of the products with musical tilt heard on 1923 for the first time in radio history and near about at the same time commercial radio came to the public. General Mills was the first person of the world who aired the world’s first singing commercial. "Have You Tried Wheaties?" was first released on the Christmas Eve of 1926 by General Mills & Co. After the massive success of General Mills, other production companies rapidly adopt this new method of advertisement. But this art of the jingle was at the peak of its history during the economic boom of 1950s. Now it has become a necessary part of every type of advertisement in all type of media like Radio, TV and internet also. Many advertisement companies use this methodology for the improvement of sail of their product and get positive results in vary short time.
